Police confirm Newark Police Lieutenant fatally shot dead ex-wife

Police confirmed that a veteran of the 24-year-old Newark Police Department went to his ex-wife's home in Jefferson Township and opened fire, killing her. and leaving his boyfriend with unknown injuries.

The shooting took place around 12:30 pm in a Mirror Place home, in the Oak Ridge neighborhood.

According to the Essex County Attorney's Office, Constable John Formisano, 49, was arrested at his parents' home in Livingston, about 30 minutes after the shooting.

News 12 New Jersey learned that Formisano had been suspended recently, but the details of the suspension are unknown.

Authorities did not reveal the names of the ex-wife of Formisano and her boyfriend, nor provided further details about her injuries.

It was also unclear if anyone else was at home at the time of shooting.
