Police have located the parents of a toddler who was found alone on East Street in Middletown early Tuesday morning.

Police say the girl is 4 years old and was found on East Street near Town Colony Drive around 4 a.m. by a passing driver. She was found alone and only wearing a Minnie Mouse diaper, police added.

The driver called 911 and emergency crews responded to the scene, officers said.

The toddler appeared to be well cared for and unharmed, they added. She was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Hours after the toddler was found on the road, police said they were reunited with his parents. For the moment, the parents have not yet been reunited with the child.

Police said the parents could face charges, but the investigation is ongoing.

It is not known how the toddler ended up on the road and authorities are working to determine how long she was outside.
