Police have not found Kelsey Berreth's body after several weeks of searching

The Woodland Park Police Department announced its decision on Wednesday, saying the police had found neither Berreth's remains nor any evidence of his death at the Midway outlet in Fountain, Colorado.

Police Chief Miles De Young said he did not believe "that it's prudent to continue" due to lack of evidence.

"This is not the result we were hoping for, but we knew, during this research, that there was a chance that we would not find Kelsey or that evidence related to her disappearance", said De Young in a statement.

Authorities searched the Midway landfill site in Fountain, Colorado, in search of Kelsey Berreth's remains.

Berreth disappeared on November 22 from her home near Woodland Park, a city between Denver and Colorado Springs. His mother reported his disappearance 10 days later.

Patrick Frazee, his fiancé and father of his daughter, is accused of having murdered and altered his body. It should be brought to court on May 24.

The researchers had been screening the rubbish from the dump since February 25, about three months after Berreth's last sighting. Police had concentrated the search on part of the burial site of about half an acre and had expected that any evidence would be buried at a depth of about 15 feet.

Krystal Lee Kenney, who said he had a romantic affair with Frazee last year, cooperated with law enforcement and shared information that helped lead the investigators to the dump.

Kenney told investigators that Frazee had attempted to enlist her to get rid of Berreth's body in Idaho, but that she had refused, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

She told the police that after beating her fiancée, Frazee burned her body in a trough before throwing it in a dump or in a river.

The authorities' investigation into Berreth's case is still ongoing. Police have urged anyone with information about the case to send it by email to the address [email protected].
