ANN ARBOR, MI – Police have identified and questioned an individual responsible for a social media post that police said threatened violence against women on the University of Michigan campus.
The University of Michigan’s Public Safety and Security Division at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, said there was nothing left to indicate impending harm to the college community.
University police issued an initial notice at 12:45 on Saturday after learning of a social media post on a “Russian-operated confession website” that spoke of committing a crime. campus “active shooter” incident targeting women.
The shooting was due to take place on October 4, according to the post.
Police said it was removed from the website at some point.
University of Michigan police earlier Saturday said they planned to strengthen their workforce and take other “risk mitigation” measures.
In the latest advisory, police regretted working with the FBI to identify an out-of-state residence as the source of the threatening message. FBI agents visited this residence and questioned a person there.
They determined that this person was responsible for the threatening message or message.
“We value our partnership with our community and appreciate those who have stepped forward to report this information. We also appreciate the quick and efficient response from our law enforcement partners, ”University of Michigan police said in a statement.
