Authorities could not find any actual explosives in a U-Haul they described as a suspicious vehicle on Saturday near the tidal basin in southwestern DC, police said.
A search of the truck in the 1500 block of Maine Avenue SW found several airsoft rifles and pistols, United States Parks Police (USPP) said.
According to the USPP, which is leading the investigation, two people were arrested, cooperated and released without further incident. They also said the U-Haul was located in the swan boat parking lot along the tidal basin.
Maine Avenue reopened after being closed between the National Mall and the Wharf.
DC Fire and EMS said they had been called to the scene as a precaution and were being organized nearby.
DC Police were assisting US Parks Police with a search of the vehicle, said Kristen Metzger, deputy director of communications for the Metropolitan Police Department.
