ELOY, Arizona (AP) – Police in Arizona said that a detective who was blocking traffic on Interstate 10 was talking to a driver from Oklahoma when he saw the dead woman of the man on the passenger seat.
Eloy police said in a statement that 70-year-old Rodney Puckett said Monday that 74-year-old Linda Puckett had died in a Texas hotel and that he had put her body in his vehicle before continuing his journey.
According to the Arizona 15 ABC, police announced they were informed of the situation by a fast food chain employee, called to the police, claiming that a man and a woman were naked in the car.
Puckett reportedly told investigators that his wife had died at a hotel in El Paso, Texas, during their car trip. He stated that he had carried his body in the car and continued on his way to California, reported ABC Arizona 15.
Puckett was arrested for suspicion of abandoning or concealing a corpse. It is unclear when he has a lawyer who could make a comment on his behalf.
The body was turned over to the Pinal County Medical Examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
The police did not respond to requests for additional information, including the couple's hometown in Oklahoma or their destination.
