Police said more than a dozen people stranded in a ride to SeaWorld in San Diego had been rescued.

Police in San Diego told FOX5 News that about six gondolas had stopped working Monday night after a strong gust of wind triggered a "Bayside Skyride" circuit breaker. Authorities had estimated that between 15 and 30 people were trapped, some in gondolas hanging over the water. Sixteen have been saved.

Runners were lowered by harnesses and rescued by lifeboats. They were then evaluated by medical teams.

SeaWorld said in a statement that it would conduct a thorough inspection of the ride before it reopened.

The National Weather Service said it was about 49 degrees in San Diego at the time.

SeaWorld said the gondolas had blankets on board.
