Two people were found dead in a house in Old East Dallas on Thursday afternoon, hours after two officers were shot and wounded while answering a call at the house, Chief Eddie Garcia said.

Police responded shortly after 11 a.m. at the 5300 block of Bonita Avenue near North Henderson Avenue where the suspect threatened to injure his wife, police said.

Garcia said police were immediately greeted with gunfire and two were shot.

The two officers had lower leg injuries and were taken to Baylor University Medical Center in stable condition, according to Dallas Police Association president Mike Mata.

He thanked Dallas Fire-Rescue for providing cover to police to remove injured officers from the scene.

At approximately 1:37 p.m., SWAT officers entered the house and found a dead man and woman inside, police said.

“Pray for the deceased victim and her family,” Garcia said in a Tweet.

Further details were not immediately available.
