(CNN) – Police and firefighters responded Saturday to a gas explosion at a shopping center in Plantation, South Florida, officials said.

Plantation Fire Rescue confirmed on Twitter that there were "several patients" in the incident.

Press images and a video on social networks show firefighters arriving at the mall. The windows were blown from an LA Fitness. Part of the complex appeared to be severely damaged, with broken windows and scattered debris.

The plantation police tweeted: "All stores and businesses in the Fountains Plaza and Plantation Marketplace areas near LA Fitness will be closed until further notice until firefighters can determine that they are safe." 39, it is safe to come in. Please do not enter this area if possible. "

CNN affiliate, WPLG, announced that the blast had occurred at The Fountains Mall, Plantation, near Fort Lauderdale.

The Plantation Fire Department, Davie, Lauderhill, Coral Springs, as well as Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue have all responded to the scene. A triage area has been set up.

"A bomb just rang," said a man in a video sent to the station.
