Police respond to possible hostage-taking at Ubisoft’s Montreal office

According to CBC and other local media, a major police operation is underway at Ubisoft Montreal headquarters. At around 1:30 p.m. ET, a group of suspects entered the building. Montreal Police confirmed there is an operation going on in the area, but it stopped before calling it a hostage-taking. From 3:10 p.m. ET, police say there have been no reports of injuries.

Videos people uploaded to Twitter and other social media platforms show heavily armed officers delimit the surroundings, as well as a large number of people on the roof of the studio. Eric pope, a community manager for the company, said on Twitter that he recognized some people on the roof of the building. Ubisoft Montreal’s main office is located in the trendy Mile End district. The police asked people to stay away from the area.
