A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after being stabbed at a McDonald’s on Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh Public Safety tweeted at around 3:10 p.m. Saturday.

Police told WPXI the boy was part of a family of four in line, when a “random” man approached and stabbed him in the neck. Police and SME answered the call just after 2 p.m.

The boy was taken to hospital, while a man was taken into custody.

An investigation is underway, police said. Detectives from major crime and crime scene units process the scene, review video evidence, and speak with eyewitnesses.

People are urged to avoid the Liberty Avenue and Stanwix Street area.
