Police said they found a missing child in Minneapolis after a vehicle theft on Saturday.

Police say the SUV was stolen at 12:17 p.m. in the 4200 block of Humboldt Ave North with 1-year-old Da’Merion Ni’Mer White in the backseat.

But, at 2:40 p.m., police are sad the child and vehicle were found at the Brooklyn Center. The Minnesota BCA said the boy was safe when the Amber alert was canceled.

Police feared the thief abandoned the vehicle after realizing the child was inside, putting the child in extreme danger due to the low temperatures.

“It could be ticked off and hidden. The kid could be sitting in the car and we are in subzero temperatures,” police spokesman John Elder said.

But, police say it appears the car thief left the vehicle running at a church in Brooklyn Center and then fled on foot. Police say the child is fine.

“He was all smiles when the officer picked up,” police spokesman John Elder said. “He appears to be a very good child.”

The search for the suspect is ongoing, police say, and they are examining surveillance footage in the area. The man will face kidnapping and car theft charges when apprehended.
