The Los Angeles Police Department dismantled Girard Damien Saenz, 57, with up to 1,000 weapons piled up at his home. The authorities have also found massive stocks of ammunition.

Saenz, who lived alone at home, was convicted of illegal transportation, giving, lending or selling assault weapons. Additional fees may be added later, including federal fees, the authorities said. He is held with a deposit of $ 50,000.

"I had never seen so many weapons during my 31 year career," said LAPD lieutenant, Chris Ramirez. "It's such an arsenal in a residence like this, in this type of neighborhood .It's staggering."

Holmby Hills is bordered by the neighborhoods of Beverly Hills and Bel Air and is home to the huge $ 85 million Aaron Spelling Fire Mansion and the Playboy Mansion.

The authorities withdrew all weapons – hundreds of rifles, semi-automatisms, handguns and even old weapons from the era of civil war – and piled them up in front of the home of the man. Officials spent the entire afternoon cataloging the huge reserve of firearms.

Ramirez called the cache of weapons "beyond understanding" at a press conference on Wednesday. He added that the big house was cluttered with piles of firearms and ammunition spread across different rooms.

Saenz was apparently allowed to own guns – and the number of guns that a person may own is not forbidden – but that person sold the guns illegally, according to the police.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) participated in the operation.
