Police shoot at dishonest driver in Bourbon Street

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Louisiana police reported that a soldier was shot and wounded by a man who was driving the wrong way on Bourbon Street, a very touristy tourist area

A statement released Thursday night said soldiers helping to close traffic lanes in Bourbon Street saw a car heading for pedestrians around 7 pm Police said the driver had made an illegal turn and failed to comply with attempts to stop the car.

The driver was shot once.

New Orleans Emergency Medical Services spokesman Jonathan Fourcade said the driver had been hospitalized for a stomach injury. His exact state is not clear, but the police say he's stable.

The officials did not disclose the driver's identity. The rider was not injured.

According to the New Orleans Advocate, the incident marks at least the third shootout in the famous New Orleans street since February.
