Former President Donald Trump has in fact gained – not lost – political weight since his departure, a political observer said on Friday.
Politico journalist Tara Palmeri’s observation runs counter to the assumptions of many in the Washington DC establishment and the mainstream media.
“People don’t want to hear anything against Trump,” Palmeri said during an appearance on MSNBC. “In fact, the longer he stays out of the media, the more he becomes this martyr, this character who threatens the GOP.”

In fact, there is now a “crusade” waged on behalf of the former president in places like Wyoming, where Trump is “much more popular” than the state’s top Congressional Republican, the American Republican. Liz Cheney, Palmeri said.
She drew the conclusion after speaking with residents of Cowboy State about Cheney’s vote to impeach Trump while covering an anti-Cheney rally led by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.

“I actually went out of my way to try and find someone who would stand up for her and I really couldn’t,” Palmeri told MSNBC. “She didn’t have a lot of name recognition, considering she was a Cheney. … I mean, I said her name at a hardware store, and someone shouted a threat.”

The “overwhelming” consensus Palmeri heard from voters was that Cheney’s impeachment vote was “not a vote for Wyoming” and “therefore, she must go.”

She went on to describe an apparent disconnect between what is seen as the truth in Washington and what is seen as the truth in Cheyenne. Palmeri mentioned that residents were not wearing masks, expressing their distrust of the coronavirus vaccine, saying both the number of reported deaths from the pandemic was “inflated”, believing that the presidential election of 2020 was not legitimate and the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill was “staged” by Antifa.

“I hate that they are so suspicious,” Palmeri said. “It looks like another world but that’s what happens on the pitch and I don’t think we can ignore it and I’m really happy that I went there and saw it because I think there’s a huge gap between Washington and the rest of the country. “

In Wyoming, she added, “A lot of people have said that they’re not really Republicans, that like, they’re for Trump. That’s all… I think the base is getting stronger, really. think an impeachment would make him even more powerful – a conviction, that’s what I mean. “
