The 91st Academy Awards will take place in a few days and, before the annual Golden Statuettes in honor of the best and most memorable Hollywood big screen performances of the past year, Fandango's ticketing service conducted an experiment. The company has decided to survey 3,000 viewers and ask them – if they were the ones who ordered the shots, who would they give Oscars at Sunday's ceremony?

Among the results of this survey among ordinary movie buffs, Black Panther appeared as the first choice for Best Picture. However, it should be noted that no film of this category won the majority of respondents (Black Panther was the first choice, but only 24% of respondents, the other films in this category dividing the rest). Here's how the other choices of the best picture collapsed, setting aside Black Panther:

  • Bohemian Rhapsody – 19%
  • A star is born – 18%
  • Green paper – 14%
  • BlacKkKlansman – 8%
  • Roma – 7%
  • The favourite – 6%
  • Vice – 4%

One last thing to note about this category. Netflix certainly hopes that Roma, the film tour de force written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron and which debuted on Netflix, is much better than the 7% illustrated above. Netflix would have done everything in a campaign to score an Oscar for RomaMany commentators have said that something would completely change the game in Hollywood – and give Netflix a lot more cachet when it comes to war with competing and increasingly competitive streaming services.

In the meantime, here are the results of the other major categories of Oscars, including the complete breakdown of the results of the survey as well as the candidate that the Fandango respondents would choose as the winner:
