Poll: What ports and features do you want to return or arrive on the 2021 MacBook Pro?

[ad_1]

We just received some exciting news from Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg today about the next generation MacBook Pro laptops. While we already knew some details such as the 14 and 16 inch screen sizes and the switch to Apple Silicon, an expansion of I / O beyond the USB-C ports, the return of MagSafe, a new design, etc. predicted. What ports and features are you most interested in seeing returning to or arriving on the next-gen MacBook Pro line?

The reports of Kuo and Mark Gurman of Bloomberg today agree on the whole, with some slight differences in a few aspects.

If you want to go straight to the survey, you can head down or use the link in the table of contents.

New MacBook Pro design

Overall, reports say we’re looking at a new square design similar to the iPhone 12 and iPad Pro lines. Kuo calls it a major overhaul, while Gurman categorizes it as a minor change.

Abandon the Touch Bar

Kuo says Apple is ditching the Touch Bar, and Bloomberg says the company is testing next-gen MacBook Pro models without Touch Bar, but it’s not yet concluded.

MagSafe is back

As for the details on which the two reports agree, one of the most interesting is the return of MagSafe. It would be a fascinating U-turn as Apple has gone all-out USB-C / Thnderbolt since the 2016 refresh with the MacBook Pro line.

Bloomberg added that the relaunched MagSafe for the new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros will allow faster charging.

I / O

Another exciting prediction is Kuo saying that new MacBook Pro models will feature more I / O ports on board. He didn’t specify which one (s), but pre-2016 models featured an SD card slot, HDMI, and USB-A.

mini LED

Another detail Bloomberg shared is that these will be Apple’s first laptops with mini-LED technology. Learn more about this in our full guide here.

More

Interestingly, Apple asked customers for feedback on what they are going to change on the 2020 M1 13in MacBook Pro. The most voted change by 9to5Mac readers last month was thinner bezels / updated design.

Poll: What do you want to see?

Notably, we haven’t heard of often-requested features like the FaceTime 1080p camera, Face ID, or thinner bezels in reports today, but we’ll be adding them as options to choose from.

In the poll below, you can vote for more than one item – select whatever you hope for on the high-end Apple Silicon MacBook Pro machines due to launch in Q3 2021.
