Pollock of the Dodgers might need an elbow surgery

SAN FRANCISCO – The Los Angeles Dodgers said central defensive player A.J. Pollock might need a surgery because of a surgically repaired right elbow infection.

National League champions put Pollock on the injured list before Tuesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Pollock, a former winner of the All-Star and Gold Glove, met doctors in Los Angeles earlier in the day.

After the Dodgers' 10-3 win, Principal Dave Roberts said doctors were conducting an exploratory procedure on Pollock's elbow to determine the severity of the infection.

Roberts said that he had no results from the procedure and had no news as to whether Pollock would need a surgical procedure.

Pollock, 31, signed a $ 55 million four-year contract with the Dodgers during the off-season, but struggled to get out. He has an average of .223 (23 vs. 109) with two homers and 14 RBIs in 28 games. He has not played in his last eight games and did not play the first game of Los Angeles in San Francisco on Monday.

Pollock had initially fractured his elbow while diving for a ball in a 2010 exhibition match. A plate and a screw were inserted into the elbow, but Pollock was again injured in the elbow in 2016 and had to undergo a similar operation.

Field player Matt Beaty, recalled from Triple A Oklahoma City, came in as a pinch scorer in the eighth and was singled out in his only fight.
