Popeyes gives the chicken sandwich a run for its money with fish.
The fried chicken chain, which sparked a sandwich war among fast food restaurants that continues to this day, announced on Thursday a new Cajun plaice sandwich has arrived in chains nationwide.
The fish sandwich is a first for Popeyes. Made with a fried plaice fillet served on a butter toasted brioche bun with pickles and tartar sauce – almost the same fixings it pairs with his fried chicken sandwich – the Cajun plaice sandwich is the premier sandwich in fish to appear on the restaurant menu.

The chain describes its new tenderloin as “light, flaky, and seasoned in a Louisiana-branded Cajun seasoning blend.” Popeyes also pointed out that the sandwich is actually made with real fish, describing it as “caught in the frozen waters of the Pacific”.
And, perhaps, to assure consumers that its fish is the real thing, Popeyes will allow customers to add “sandwich insurance” to their order for just 10 cents through its app – and anyone with a bone to pick with it. fried fillet can swap it out for a chicken sandwich instead.
“After seeing the answer to our Chicken Sandwich in 2019, we’re excited to deliver yet another delicious sandwich to our fans that is sure to reset the industry standards,” said Popeyes President Sami Siddiqui, in a press release.

Popeyes’ shady new follow-up has a lot going for it. The chain introduced its fried chicken sandwich in August 2019 and sparked a social media feud with rival Chick-fil-A over competing menu items (both sandwiches feature fried chicken and pickles).
Since then, a number of other chains have entered the battle. KFC announced last month that its iteration of the Chicken Sandwich will debut in February. And competitors like McDonald’s, Shake Shack, Wendy’s, and Burger King have also upped their chicken sandwiches to jump into the hot food trend.
