Porsche is investigating 911 and Panamera engines for possible modifications

Porsche has launched an internal investigation into older gasoline engines on the possibility of “manipulations” in the 911 and Panamera.

German publication Bild am Sonntag first broke the news on Sunday and Porsche confirmed the internal investigation with Roadshow.

“Porsche regularly and continuously reviews the technical and regulatory aspects of its vehicles. The company also conducts reviews of potential problems. This is an expression of a functional system of internal control measures and of our corporate culture.” , a spokesperson said in a statement.

Details surrounding what the “manipulations” involve are not available, although the language suggests there may be issues with ongoing broadcasts. Porsche has simply stated in reviews like this that the focus is often on “the specific hardware and software used in certification tests.”

“In some cases, these components may also differ from parts used in production vehicles,” the statement added.

The automaker stressed that this investigation does not cover vehicles currently in production.

Many car manufacturers have come under scrutiny since Volkswagen’s “dieselgate” released into the public domain. In the past, Porsche too paid his own fine in Germany, after authorities found out that the company was using Audi engines with defeat devices installed. The automaker continues to work with authorities as it conducts this most recent investigation.
