Porsche production Taycan will start September 9 in a new factory

After launching earlier this week, Porsche confirmed that Taycan's production would begin on Sept. 9 in its new plant.

On Wednesday, Porsche unveiled the two high-end versions of Taycan, Turbo and Turbo S, and plans to market them worldwide in the coming months.

The vehicle is not only an important program for Porsche because it is its first 100% electric car, but also because it has added a large production capacity to support the vehicle.

Over the past 4 years they have built a new factory at their Zuffenhausen site to build the Taycan. It includes a body shop, a paint shop, an electric motor and component manufacturing plant, a vehicle assembly shop and related transportation technology.

Albrecht Reimold, member of the production and logistics department at Porsche AG, commented on the new plant:

"The new factory reflects the tradition of the brand and sends a clear signal on the future of Porsche. It is a deliberate decision to build the Taycan in Zuffenhausen – the home of the brand's heart and soul. "

He added:

"We have built a plant in a factory – in the center of the city and close to our neighbors, in the most confined spaces, as soon as possible and without disrupting the production facilities of existing sports cars operating at full capacity. Now the factory has been completed on schedule and without any major setbacks. This was possible thanks to careful planning and an excellent team. A close dialogue with our neighbors was also crucial. We kept them informed of the evolution of the situation throughout the project. "

Porsche is now ready to start producing Taycan next week and increase production to 20,000 to 40,000 units a year, depending on demand.

Deliveries are expected first in European markets and the vehicle is expected to arrive in the North American market early next year.

After launching this week, I'm starting to think that the initial goal of 20,000 units per week is more realistic than the more recent 40,000 units launched.

Most people always seem impressed by the vehicle. The comparison of the specifications with Tesla Model S is inevitable, which obviously does not give a beautiful aspect to the Taycan, but more than specifications.

The car looks great and the biggest asset of Porsche is also the pleasure of driving, which remains to be verified.

However, I think the price is the biggest problem. The few reservation holders who I spoke to after the announcement were surprised.

They knew that Porsche would start by launching the high-end versions of the car, but they still thought it would approach $ 150,000 fully equipped.

Instead, it starts at $ 150,000 and goes up to $ 200,000.

I still think there will be significant demand for the car, but a goal close to 20,000 units a year is more reasonable.

To be fair, it's still a major automotive program for a relatively small manufacturer like Porsche.
