Make way for the Porsche Taycan, the latest version of the German manufacturer’s first electric sports car.

Announced this week, the “standard” Taycan comes with the simple name “Taycan” as opposed to the 4S or Turbo S. It will be released later this year in the United States as the most basic option in the Taycan electric lineup. It will also be the cheapest mode, starting at $ 79,900. It’s ultimately close to the Tesla Model S, which starts at around $ 70,000.

Previously, it was the “budget” Taycan with a starting price of over $ 103,000. The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S cost $ 150,000 and $ 185,000, respectively.

The newer Taycan weighs 200 pounds less than its “more sophisticated” predecessors and comes with a standard battery with a capacity of 79.2 kWh and a rear motor. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds with a top speed of 143 mph.

Previous Taycan models have a range of around 200 miles, but the estimated range for this new standard Taycan has yet to be announced. A more capable battery configuration will be available to be added to the new Taycan for $ 5,780.

From the outside, the Taycan looks quite similar to the older models – it’s just a bit bigger. It should hit the streets in the spring, but you can pre-order it online now.
