Porsche has officially launched the new generation Porsche 911 RSR-19 that will make its debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship later this year.
The car, in development since 2017, was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Saturday afternoon.
It replaces the older generation 911 RSR that had made its first appearance in the race two years ago and then won the WEC 2018-19 driver and manufacturer titles, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The new car includes an updated version of the outgoing car's six-cylinder boxer engine, with a slightly larger displacement of 4,194 liters, which, according to the manufacturer, is the largest to be mounted on a 911 post-factory model .
When the existence of the car was revealed last year, it was initially thought that Porsche could switch to a turbo configuration similar to that of most of its rivals GTE.
However, he chose to stick to the method of choice used in all his previous models for the formula.
As in the case of the outgoing car, the engine of the 911 RSR-19 is mounted right in front of the rear axle.
A major change is the repositioning of the exhaust pipes so that they come out on either side in front of the rear wheels, which, according to Porsche, has created additional space for rear diffuser modifications, which provides an extra support force.
Improvements and alterations were also made to the car's aerodynamic profile, six-speed gearbox and collision warning system.
Porsche Motors GT Motorsport division director Pascal Zurlinden said 95 percent of the car was new.
"The only components we left unchanged compared to the predecessor are the headlights, the braking system, the clutch, the driver's seat and the parts of the suspension," he explained.
"We analyzed in detail all the campaigns of factories and customers with the Porsche 911 RSR.
"Our engineers have found that there is room for improvement in a number of areas. We have made significant progress in the development of our car for the next three year certification period, especially in the complex areas of maneuverability, efficiency, durability and ease of operation. # 39; maintenance. "
The car made its debut on the track at the Porsche factory in Weissach last August, when it was doing its first endurance tests in March.
This required 30 hours of continuous operation at Paul Ricard, with contributions from the Manthey-based CORE Operations Teams and those based at IMSA, with the car covering approximately 6,000 km in total.
Trials have recently been carried out at Monza, where the new exhaust gas layout and the new aerodynamic profile have been photographed.

The first race of the car is the 4 Hours of Silverstone in September, when it will debut in North America at the Rolex 24 2020 Daytona.
