Generac has recalled some portable generator sets after people using them had their fingers amputated or crushed.

According to a US Consumer Product Safety Commission announcement, the recall involves the Generac and DR 6,500-watt and 8,000-watt portable generators.

The problem, said the CPSC, is “An unlocked handle can pinch consumers’ fingers against the generator frame when the generator is moved, posing a risk of finger amputation and crushing.”

Generac has received reports of seven people having their fingers amputated and one having a crushed finger.

The CPSC said approximately 321,160 of the generators have been sold in the United States at hardware and hardware stores nationwide and online, including Ace Hardware, Amazon, Blain’s Farm & Fleet, City Electric Supply, Costco, Do it Best, Fastenal, Home Depot, Lowe’s Stores, Napa Auto Parts, Northern Tool & Equipment, Orgill, Power Equipment Direct, Ravitsky Bros., True Value and WW Grainger from June 2013 to June 2021 for between $ 790 and $ 1,480 .
