Portland, Oregon Mayor Ted Wheeler (R) is said to have pepper sprayed a man who approached him outside a restaurant on Sunday over the city’s COVID-19 guidelines.
A police report first reported by The Oregonian said Wheeler was followed to his car by a man who taped him to a cell phone and harassed him over an alleged violation of city rules.
Wheeler told police he tried to respond to the man by explaining that the city’s coronavirus restrictions allow residents to not have face masks when eating or drinking at a restaurant, and has warned he would be pepper-sprayed if he didn’t back down – which he didn’t do, according to the report.
