Tourism in Portugal sets new records in 2017

The year 2017 set records in the tourism sector, according to the latest edition of the Atlas of Deloitte Hotel Management.

In the document published this Friday, with reference to 2017, it is specified that the total of overnight stays exceeds 57 million. Revenues in the hospitality sector have exceeded 2,500 million euros.

Lisbon has the second highest occupancy rate in all of Europe, up 80%, but Madeira and Algarve have the highest average stay, c & # 39; that is to say where people stay longer.

By 2018, we expect the numbers to increase again, as 49 new hotels, particularly 4 and 5 star hotels, are expected. Only in the capital is scheduled the opening of 21 new hotel units.

Deloitte also reveals that the number of rental housing (AL) in Portugal has exploded in a single year, from 26,151 in 2016 to 51,014 in 2017, an increase of 85%, which corresponds to a total of of 24,863 units.

With regard to the total number of beds, the annual increase is even greater: it increased from 101,841 to 205,261, or 103,420 beds (102%) in one year.
