Facebook hires a former Google engineer for the chip division

Facebook has hired a Google engineer in what may indicate a production project of its own chips. Shahriar Rabii, who managed the chip development on Google, is now the vice president of Facebook's semiconductor business.

The arrival of Rabii is still a sign that Mark Zuckerberg plans to create his own chips.

According to Bloomberg, Facebook can use these processors for many projects, such as artificial intelligence and data centers.

Facebook would follow a current market trend. Companies like Apple and Google are investing in proprietary chips to reduce their dependence on manufacturers like Intel and Qualcomm.

Several different devices are developed internally by Facebook. The Oculus Go, launched in May, is one of these devices, and Facebook is still planning to launch smartphones in the future.
