Days after being fined $ 1 billion for antitrust violations, Google is again accused of deliberately harming competition. The subject of the moment is YouTube, which received a new design this week and would, according to developer reports, be five times slower in Firefox and Edge browsers compared to the results displayed in Chrome.
The culprit would be an outdated API that is implemented properly only in Google's browser. A malfunction in other browsers would then cause a slowdown in the official download, which would have taken up to five seconds for the page to display completely, against only one in the giant's own software.
One of the main names to talk about was Chris Peterson, who is the programming manager of Mozilla. Behind the problem would be what technically calls Shadow DOM, a method used to apply specific rules to an HTML document without these settings being applied to the set. It will be one of the members of the new YouTube design as part of a design and programming initiative called Polymer

In the social network, users quickly pointed out Google's responsibility in the matter, since it seems unlikely that it has not performed tests to realize that YouTube, one of its main services, is slower in competitors' browsers. Fortunately, there is a way to solve the problem for those who do not want to handle it. In Firefox, an extension can force YouTube to display only its classic layout, that is, without the API that causes slowness. In Edge, the process is a bit more complicated and requires a change of developer mode.
To do this, go to YouTube and, once the site is loaded, enter developer mode by pressing the F12 key. Look for the Debugger tab in the main menu, then the Cookies option by selecting the corresponding option for the video site. Find the Name column and then the "PREF" by pasting the following code in the space corresponding to Value: al = en & f5 = 30030 & f6 = 8 .
As in Firefox, Edge will also be forced just download the old version of YouTube. Google, for the moment, has not officially ruled on the allegations.
