The public prosecutor has recently decided to join the criminal cases relating to the robbery and the appearance of the military armaments of Tancos parades.

The Attorney General's office, interviewed by the Lusa agency, confirmed that "the two cases were united," noting that the investigation was a matter of secrecy.

Initially, two investigations were opened, one on the theft of military weapons warehouses Tancos, known June 29, 2017, and another on the appearance of weapons in Chamusca, October 18 of the same year that led to the detention of eight military and one civilian, João Paulino, designated as alleged perpetrator of the robbery and detained.

By decision of the former Attorney General Joana Marques Vidal, the Tancos robbery process was entrusted to the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DCIAP), in collaboration with the PJ and with the collaboration of PJ Militar, "given the nature and gravity of the crimes.

The PGR also indicated that, considering the "seriousness of the facts and the complexity of the investigation", the investigation into the circumstances of the appearance of the stolen weapons in Tancos was independent of that established following the disappearance of weapons from the army warehouses and the investigation would also be the DCIAP.

On 25 September, the Public Prosecutor's Office justified the arrests in case of recovery of arms (Operation Húbris) on suspicion of criminal conspiracy, miscarriage of justice, procrastination, falsification of documents, trafficking in illegal immigrants. Influence, personal favoritism practiced by an employee, abuse of power, prescription, possession of prohibited weapons and arms trafficking.

The Tancos affair has already caused the departure of Defense Minister Azeredo Lopes and Army Chief of Staff Rovisto Duarte, and a certain discomfort in the relations between PJ and PJM.

Colonel Luís Vieira, former director of the Military Judiciary Police, is the only military officer on remand and has already lodged an appeal to review the restraint measure.

Three other members of the PJM were accused and were released, although they were suspended from their duties, prohibition of any contact with the coarguidos and with all the military members of the armed forces, the GNR and the elements of the PJM.

Major Vasco Brasão, a former PJM spokesperson and investigator accused of investigating the Tancos robbery, was arrested at the appearance stage and placed under house arrest without electronic surveillance. He is prohibited from contacting the other eight accused.

Among the accused are the three soldiers from the criminal investigation nucleus of the GNR Loulé, including its coordinator, Sergeant Lima Santos.

Azeredo Lopes has already expressed the "willingness and interest" to be heard in the process.
