PSD PS helps to hit the update of IRS ladders

It was a proposal that included CDS, PCP and BE, but ended up being the "hard core" to end it. The ranks of the IRS will not, as proposed by Christian Democrats and Communists, be updated according to the inflation rate because, with the PS and the PSB's abstention, the measure has become impossible.

The proposal was made during the discussion of the state budget for 2019. The CDS and PCP felt that it was unfair to maintain the current limits of each rank of the IRS based of workers' income, because if they are not increased according to inflation, it will only be an "overcrowded IRS", argued the CDS.

But the PS – like the PSD, who did not vote against, made the proposal unachievable – did not accept the arguments put forward. The Minister of Finance, Mário Centeno, had already recalled that last year, a substantial reform had been made to the IRS system (leaping the ranks, which went from five to seven on the proposal of the left parties) without being sensitive to proposals. that they should change it again and insist that the effects of this reform be checked first.

As reported by Expresso, the PSD even stated that it was available to "help correct the worsening of the IRS" by correcting the rank limits according to the inflation rate. But it imposed conditions: to vote in favor of the proposals, measures would have to be made to compensate for the loss of revenue, amounting to 63 million euros. During the vote, the party even voted against it, but that was a mistake: after all, it chose to abstain.
