In three days, about 1,500 books of Portuguese authors have been sold in Portugal at the Guadalajara Book Fair in Mexico, and some authors' titles are exhausted and can not be replaced.
José Manuel Cortez, from the General Directorate of Books, Archives and Libraries (DGLAB), told Lusa that on the shelves of the library, there were few copies of works – or already sold out – Gonçalo M. Tavares, Dulce Maria Cardoso and Ana Luísa Amaral.
The Guadalajara Book Fair, on Portugal's invitation of honor, opened on Saturday. The Portuguese pavilion includes a bookstore with 3,000 books of Portuguese authors and it is impossible to reconstruct the already exhausted works, explained José Manuel Cortez.
"I can not predict what the situation will be next Saturday and Sunday, there are masses of people coming here, I do not know if we will miss, but they will sell a lot, they will do it," he said. .
According to José Manuel Cortez, the authors who sold the greatest number of works during these three days of the show – which includes a professional component but is open to the public – were António Lobo Antunes, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Fernando Pessoa and José Saramago.
Children's literature and titles of gastronomy were also among the best-selling.
"There is a factor that should have been predicted and it was not."
