Victim of typical fugues that precede the official presentations, the new 911 is already official. The new generation incorporates all the features that have made the German sportsman one of Porsche's best-selling models – the SUVs and Macans have tipped the scales … But it is not only welcome that the new member of the Family 992 does not escape the classic formula used for decades because it must be recognized that it evolves where it matters most.
Externally, the new generation has gained in width (45 mm at the front), while the more aggressive image was enhanced by larger wheel arches accommodating 20-inch wheels at the front. front and rear wheels to 21 inches. Here, the most striking element is undoubtedly the variable position spoiler, which becomes more generous, while the LED bar becomes a feature of all versions. And if the trunk lid at the front recalls the design of the first generations of the 911, the electric door handles, which hide when needed, give the athlete the touch of modernity.
As expected, the new 911 enhances the range of driver assistance systems, but none of the features mentioned by the brand is new. Therefore, we would say that the most important attribute of this model lies in the horizontally opposed six-cylinder Boxer engine. It's the same 3.0-liter gasoline that was already driving the previous generation, but that has undergone a series of modifications in the injection system and in turbochargers, to increase power. As a result, the 911 Carrera S and the Carrera 4S, the first two members of the 992 generation, now load 450 hp – plus 30 hp. At the moment, they are only available with an eight-speed automatic clutch transmission (PDK), but they can later be paired with a manual gearbox.
Increasing the power could only result in improved performance. According to the brand, the 911 Carrera S PDK (propulsion) goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and can reach 308 km / h maximum speed. Figures showing respectively an improvement of 0.4 seconds with stopping start and an additional maximum speed of 2 km / h. It takes 3.6 seconds for the Carrera 4S PDK (4WD) to go from 0 to 100 km / h (before 4 seconds) and the maximum speed goes from 303 km / h to 306 km / h.
Inside, there are also changes. The interior inherits features of the Panamera and Cayenne and is endowed with a new multimedia system, featuring a renewed operating system and a larger touch screen (10.9 inches instead of the previous 7).
In Portugal, the new 911 is already on sale for values that are around 9,000 and 15,000 € compared to the previous generation, the Carrera S being offered for values from 146 550,40 € and the Carrera 4S starting from 154 897,07 €. €.
