The president of the SEAL said Wednesday that the bosses already recognized the existence of precariousness in the port of Setúbal and accepted a "much more important" integration than originally planned.

On Monday, the Minister of the Sea was already assured that the union, the operators and the port administration were open to solve the problem of precariousness in Setúbal, noting that there was a disagreement on the trading model.
"At this moment, we have the will and openness to solve the problem of precariousness (…), although there is a divergence between unions and companies. According to the manager, the most important difference lies in the bargaining model, as the SEAL says it should continue to completely stop the port, while the operators want the handlers to return to work, as long as Overtime strike and not all working time is in effect. For the meeting, the government issued a memorandum containing five proposals, encompassing "concessions" from all parties.
According to the document to which the journalists had access, inter alia, the Port Authority of Setúbal and Sesimbra (APSS) proposed, within three weeks, an "unequivocal" recommendation on the number of permanent and temporary staff members. to suspend the status quo. Negotiations continue Thursday at the Ministry of the Sea in Lisbon.
About 90 workers engaged in the port of Setúbal by the Port Operations Company Operestiva, some for more than ten years and others for over twenty years, have protested against the precarious situation, demanding first and foremost a collective labor contract .
At the same time, the dockers working at the SEAL are on strike to do an extraordinary job, which will continue until January 2019 to defend the freedom of trade union membership. This strike concerns the ports of Lisbon, Setúbal, Sines, Figueira da Foz, Leixões, Caniçal (Madeira), Ponta Delgada and Praia da Vitória (Azores).
