In an interview with CNET, Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of marketing, said the iPhone XR was the company's most popular handset. It has surpassed the sales figures of iPhone XS and XS Max since its release on October 26th.
The information contradicts all the latest reports on Apple, which sells fewer and fewer devices each year. In the quarter-end results of Sept. 29, Apple revealed that it was unable to reach the number of handsets expected by analysts and that it also forecasted lower-than-expected numbers for sales of end of the year.
Since the unveiling of its latest financial results, Apple's shares have fallen by about 20%, so the company no longer has the $ 1 trillion market value it had reached in August of this year .
To further alarm the company's investors, the Wall Street Journal revealed last week that Apple had reduced production of the three iPhone models marketed in 2018, prompting several of them to consider the company's sales as worse than expected.
Apple has also been caught in the crossfire of the tax war between US President Donald Trump and the Chinese government. Earlier this week, the president announced plans to raise import tariffs for iPhones and laptops from China to force Apple to import its entire production line to the United States.
Joswiak declined to comment on the newspaper's report, merely repeating that the iPhone XR was the most popular and best-selling model since its release. The executive also declined to comment on Trump's remarks.
