GNR requires drivers to pass an alcohol test at the hospital and passengers wait

A GNR patrol forced a CP machinist to go to the hospital to commit an alcohol and drug offense as a result of an incident on the line near Pinhal Novo.

The GNR was called to the scene after the driver stopped the train as a result of a suicide. The case occurred about two weeks ago on the line between Setúbal and Barreiro. According to Público, it was just past noon when the driver was forced to operate the emergency brake because of the presence of a body in the line.

However, the situation was not avoided. The train, even if the emergency brake has been used, still needs a few hundred meters until it stops.

The GNR was called to the scene and, as in the case of road accidents, forced the driver to go to the nearest hospital for blood glucose testing and drug testing.

However, in accordance with CP regulations, a driver can never leave his station on the train without being replaced by another professional. Público wrote what happened more than an hour later, when passengers waited, delaying traffic on the line.

The driver went to Setúbal Hospital to do the tests, the results of which were negative.

It should be noted that the performance of the GNR is contrary to its own internal rules, according to which an incident involving a train should not be treated as a road accident, where alcohol and drug tests are conducted. drugs are currently mandatory.
