One of the most debated topics in recent days on the Internet is undoubtedly Article 13, which has sparked so much controversy. On the one hand, the panic of some YouTubers who spread the message that the Internet (as we know it) would end and that YouTube channels would disappear … and therefore the anxiety of many young people (and not only) who believed for a moment that in fact all that was said would happen!
To clarify the company, Sofia Colares Alves, representative of the European Commission in Portugal, wrote an open letter to YouTubers concerned by Article 13.
The letter written by Sofia Colares Alves was published on Thursday on the website of the European Commission. Sofia Colares Alves says that she has watched the videos and publications, where they talk about their concerns regarding the Copyright Directive. However, the representative of the European Commission in Portugal reveals that there is no reason to worry.
Sofia Colares Alves says that YouTube channels will not disappearjust as the Internet (as we know it) will not disappear and even the same they will not disappear.
The representative also recalled that "the European Union is a freedom of expression. It is no wonder that so many thousands of immigrants are suffering here. Freedom, information and democratic societies are part of our DNA. That is why we are banking on Erasmus, the end of homelessness, the end of geoblocking and the free InterRail for 18 year olds. And that will not change.
What we want to change is the unbridled way the content is (ab) used on the Internet for the benefit of large platforms. Youtubers, musicians, journalists, comedians, writers, actors and photographers deserve to see their work recognized and properly paid for. Are they all, including you, youtubers, the beneficiaries of our proposal?
Sofia Colares Alves leaves a word of thanks "for the videos, the memes and your creativity, and thank you for showing that young people are always able to defend their causes."
