Campaign

The HIV / AIDS awareness campaign began on Saturday (01.12), as part of the World AIDS Day campaign, in the Itamarati and Vila Rica health units. The Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Teams visited the stations with rapid tests and advice to the population. Respondents were able to obtain HIV / AIDS, Sifilis, Hepatitis C and B test results in about 20 minutes and about 200 exams were scheduled for the first day of action.
Throughout the month of December, awareness-raising activities will be carried out and basic health units (BHUs) and family health centers (PSFs) will be equipped with rapid tests. The city's HIV / AIDS program aims to expand coverage of HIV / AIDS work in the city. "The municipality is working with a network of services that offers all the necessary support to the population, from prevention guidelines to rapid diagnoses and referrals to treatments in the public network," said Mayor Bernardo Rossi.
According to STI coordinator Miriana Hilcenko, the program is acting to decentralize the rapid tests, making the service available through the Basic Health Units (UBS). The Itamarati unit will be prepared from the Saturday action (01.12). Currently, the family health posts (PSF) perform the tests with results in 20 minutes. "We are going to extend the rapid tests for UBS and speed up the diagnosis by speeding up the start of treatments when the disease is detected. The test is simple and fast.In a single drop, we can identify infections", said the manager.
The IST program of the municipality aims to follow the Ministry of Health's goal of identifying and treating 90% of HIV / AIDS. "What people need to know is that with treatment, it is possible to reduce the viral load so that the HIV virus is undetectable and non-transferable.People can live normally, since the treatment is done, what is totally available via the public network, "says the program manager.
In the municipality, 743 cases of people infected with HIV / AIDS have been reported so far. Of this total, 492 are men, 248 are women and 3 are children. The highest incidence is in adult patients of both sexes in the age group of 20 to 59 years.
Shopkeeper Edson Milan da Cunha, 56, lives in Cascatinha and took advantage of the campaign to complete the quick test. "This work is very important, people need to know that they have to pass the exams periodically. The result is very fast.In 20 minutes you can learn about your health and take care of yourself," says the trader. The program provides daily care, with testing and awareness, at the headquarters of the Nelson Sá Earp Municipal Hospital (HMNSE). The operation is from 7:30 to 19:30.
