With an expected presentation for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the Corsa is one of the most important models of Opel and the one that sells the most in Portugal. The new generation, which seems to blink here, is using PSA's organ bank to benefit from a new platform, already able to mount both versions with combustion and electric engines.
If in the previous generation, General Motors, the owner of Opel / Vauxhall chose to save money, forcing Opel to create the Corsa on the basis of the old platform, this time, the German brand of the French group PSA The new chassis, the Common Modular Platform (CMP), certainly has advantages in terms of weight and versatility, being the same as that already used by the DS 3 Crossback and the future Peugeot 208, which will be unveiled at Geneva.
In order to commercialize the new utility with a similar price position and 208-compliant, the new generation of the Corsa should have an improved level of equipment, both in terms of security and connectivity, and not should not miss the latest driving aids. However, the most visible detail will be the new IntelliLux headlights, with LED technology, an excellent safety argument – but also aesthetic – but that will significantly increase the price of a vehicle in this segment (B).
Certainly with only the five-door body, since the three-door solutions are starting to be rare in the segment, the new Corsa will use the gasoline engine, 1.2 atmospheric or supercharged, with powers of 70, 100 hp, 130 hp and 160 ch. , and the 1.5 BlueHDI 100 hp should also be available. The biggest innovation will be eCorsa, the electric version of the model planned for 2020, powered by a battery of 50 kWh and capable of covering probably more than 300 km between refills, according to the WLTP cycle.
