The Prime Minister said Thursday in parliament that the government would pay the remaining debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by the end of the year.

"The main achievement of this legislature is trust," said António Costa in his speech during the vote in the final vote of the state budget for 2019, in the Assembly of the Republic, highlighting "the more important growth of the economy, fair accounts and the restoration of credibility of Portugal ".

Until October, the IMF owed 4.7 billion euros on an initial loan of 26.3 billion euros.
