Volkswagen Autoeuropa agreed to pay 120,000 euros to be able to park up to 8,000 cars for 93 days at Montijo Air Base. The protocol, which has so far not been disclosed, details the terms of assignment and explains that the company's request to use the base is an "exceptional" solution agreed upon until the end of the year. to December 17 which "does not affect in any way the operation and security" of the air force.

The document accessed by TSF reveals that in exchange for eight thousand cars for 93 days, the Portuguese Air Force receives 120,000 euros. That is to say by doing the accounts (without the VAT which will also have to be paid), If Autoeuropa used the maximum capacity possible, each seat would cost about 16 cents per day or 15 euros per seat for 93 days.

The company is not advancing the number of cars parked in Montijo, but Air Force sources say the number varies daily and will never reach maximum capacity.

The protocol also provides for the possibility of extending, with military authorization, from 8,000 to 10,000 parking spaces in case the company will have to pay 50 additional cents per day and per car.
For each employee entering the base, Autoeuropa will also pay an additional € 26.60 per day for the cost of water, energy, cleaning and meals.

Air Force avoids the unexpected

By avoiding the unexpected, the Air Force has also obtained a clause allowing it to terminate the protocol at any time, without any obligation to pay any compensation to the company. For example, if an unforeseen and unforeseen situation occurs or if the presence of vehicles affects the normal work of the air base.

The company will also be entitled to no compensation in case of damage in the vehicles.

Autoeuropa is committed to giving up space to no other entity, forcing them to clear the parking areas at the end, accepting that it is "subordinated" to military interests and possible constraints of the core business.

The contract between Volkswagen Autoeuropa and the Air Force can be extended beyond December 17 by paying the daily value of 120,000 euros over 93 days, a scenario that remains current. Do not forget that the strike of the handlers who caused the export of cars by the port of Setúbal continues.

The Air Force stresses that they have taken into account in this protocol what Autoeuropa represents for the national economy and that the airbase has sufficient space to receive vehicles without compromising routine military activities.
