Consumers are not protected when they use intermediaries. It is very difficult to collect amounts that have been badly received.

Car rental through the intermediary of online platforms has caused hundreds of complaints. During the first six months of 2018, 815 complaints were filed with the Transport and Mobility Authority (AMT). Add up to half of a hundred registered in the complaint portal.

According to the newspaper Public consumers are not protected when car rental takes place through intermediaries between the person and the companies owning the cars: no legislation protects people. One of the examples of these platforms is Rentalcars.

It is therefore very difficult to collect improperly collected amounts or to file claims.

The AMT indicates that the main complaints of people are due to the imposition of service contracts that they had not intended to have, as Insurance and Via Verde, and to pay damages that they do not recognize as their liability. In addition, the payment of amounts greater than debits contracted and undue on the credit card leads to complaints.

The companies most present in the complaints presented at the AMT are Europcar International, Sixt, Guerin, Centauro and Hertz.
