They resisted everything. From the Socrates government, through the sovereign debt crisis, to help the troika. The 25 wealthiest in Portugal have more than doubled their fortunes in the last 15 years.

In this exclusive group of Portuguese, the Amorim family stands out. Still, the rich are less affluent this year than in 2017. Exame data show that in 2017, accumulated fortunes were worth 18.8 billion euros. This year, that figure was 17.9 billion.

The largest increase of the year occurred in the assets of Pedro Queiroz Pereira with Semapa shares rising from 17 to 22.5 euros in 2018.
