Mutirão of prevention against skin cancer offers surgery in Campo Grande

A skin cancer prevention campaign, to be held next Saturday (the 1st), will include surgeries in Campo Grande. Guidance and consultations will also be organized.

The team of five dermatologists, nine residents and nurses is expected to perform between 600 and 800 consultations. The service is free and to participate, simply submit a document with photo and map of the unified health system (SUS).

"Anyone who has a suspicion, a perception of spots, pimples, bumps or lesions that may or may become a skin cancer can attend the treatment of Humap that day," says the head of the department Dermatology of Humap UFMS, Günter Hans Filho.

All persons will be consulted. Patients with suspected skin cancer will undergo a biopsy. If precancerous lesions are discovered, patients will undergo cryosurgery (a surgical method using low temperature gases, particularly nitrogen, to destroy lesions). Thaísa Saddi Tannous Silvino, dermatologist and event coordinator, explains that in Brazil, skin cancer accounts for 33% of all malignant tumor diagnoses.

The event takes place at the Dermatology Clinic of Maria Aparecida Pedrossian University Hospital of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (Humap-UFMS) from 9:00 to 15:00. The mutirão is organized by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD) and is part of the National Campaign for the Detection of Skin Cancer.
