The Military Judicial Police (PJM) arrested a member of the Command Regiment on Wednesday suspected of murdering his colleague Luís Miguel Teles Lima, who was found dead at the Carregueira Barracks in Sintra on 21 September. The army spokeswoman confirmed to the observer that the PJM and a deputy district attorney from the West District were Wednesday in front of the commanding regiment to detain a soldier and bring him to justice in the a case where he is "charged with the crime of homicide". The suspect should be interrogated in the next 48 hours.

The first information was that Luis Teles Lima committed suicide and that the same thing would have been, initially, communicated to the family. Subsequently, information revealed that the member was on duty. Now, there is strong presumption that he was murdered by a colleague. The soldier, originally from Madeira, was 23 years old.

According to Correio da Manhã, the soldier was killed by a G3 machine gun. According to the Diário de Notícias, investigations revealed the absence of gunpowder in the hands of the soldier, which led him to rule out the suicide hypothesis. According to sources quoted by the same newspaper, the suspect would have shot with the G3 service, although the bullet is not part of the batch of service weapons, which might suggest that there had been premeditation.
