The state health department of Goiás announced that 18 cases of meningitis in the state had been confirmed until Friday (08/03), of which six died from complications.
According to the agency, there is no epidemic situation in Goiás, last year data indicate that there were 213 records and 39 deaths.
"We are not experiencing an epidemic or outbreak of the disease.The cases are in a normal distribution," said Magna Carvalho, head of epidemiological surveillance at Sna.
The cities of Goiás with the highest number of cases of meningitis are: Anápolis, Aparecida de Goiânia, Britania, Goiânia, Itaberaí, Jaraguá, Mundo Novo, Rio Verde, Rubiataba, Santa Helena, Santa Terezinha and Trindade.
