Singapore – A ] Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, announced Friday that A newly developed foldable and shatterproof screen has passed a safety test in the United States, a step that will help the South Korean group sell the product.
Samsung Display, an Apple supplier, said that the screen could be used on devices such as the cell phones tablets, video game consoles and automobiles .
The LG Display, also Korean, has long been working on flexible displays to enable the creation of innovative devices.
Samsung's new screen is protected by plastic instead of glass, which increases flexibility and makes it virtually unbreakable, the company said. According to the Samsung Display, the screen has a transparency close to that of glass.
The company stated that the tests performed in USA consisted of hitting the screen 26 times at a height of 1.2 meters. After the tests, the screen continued to function normally, without damaging the front, sides or ends, the company said.
The market widely hopes that Samsung Electronics will launch a foldable display device from the head of the mobile devices division. The group said last September that such a device was under development and that it had to overcome technical hurdles before it could be released in 2018.
Such a device should help the market to reduce fears that Samsung, world, are running out of ideas to support future handset sales of its Galaxy brand.
