The commercial aircraft of the future has arrived. And Portugal is the first to have it

For a simple passenger, a layman who sees it from the outside looks like another plane. A little bigger, yes, but a plane similar to all the others. It is only when we enter the new Airbus A330neo that we realize the differences.

The huge space available is the first thing that appears. There are not two but three large rows of seats. Huge seats spread over three classes, each more comfortable (and pompous) than the other.

The seats – which we see later – can be turned into beds, because they bow completely to allow the passenger to lie down – are surrounded by screens on all sides (one can even wonder who has need). so many viewers at a time).

There is room to eat, read and everything in the greatest of privations, with subtle partitions between the seats of the different passengers.

When we get up for a little visit to the bathroom, then we wash our hands, the surprise is in a smart tap, which opens and closes itself, without having to touch it.

This plane that looks like the others has, after all, a lot to tell. TSF was aboard the new Airbus A330neo and tells you what to expect from the latest Portuguese aeronautical acquisition.

It is spacious

The plane that now arrives in Portugal has 298 seats (the cabin is divided into three classes: 34 seats in "full flat" – means you can literally lie on your chair to take a nap – in business; in economy class plus 168 in economy class). However, it can expand the capacity up to 440 passengers.

In addition to the space for travelers, there is also more space for suitcases, with larger storage cabinets for storing all hand luggage.

Fight the jet lag

They say it's "innovative cabin lighting". It is true that the aircraft has 16.7 million colors of different lights and it is possible to choose different light scenarios to simulate different times of the day (mimicking daylight in the light of a daylight). natural sunset).

The aircraft also has an ultra quiet cockpit. The purpose of all this? Reduces fatigue and the feeling of Jetlag passengers on the longest flights.

But because the crew also has the right to rest, the plane has dorms on the lower level (yes, there is even a "little guy" with beds where the flight crew can sleep).

Do not let anyone bother you

The Airbus A330neo offers state-of-the-art entertainment and connectivity systems with high definition video, 3D capabilities and touch screens. Basically, yes, we can see the films we want, with the best quality possible.

Respectful of the environment

Compared to the latest similar models, the aircraft reduces fuel consumption by 25% per seat. After all, this reduces CO2 emissions by up to 14.2%.

The aircraft is manufactured by Airbus, a global leader in aerospace and aerospace, which has partnered with Rolls-Royce to develop state-of-the-art engines.

The company will supply TAP 21 aircraft, at least two of which will be operational by the end of the year. The others will arrive in 2019.

TAP President, Antonoaldo Neves, spoke "of an amazing day for TAP and Portugal" during the aircraft delivery ceremony at the Portuguese company, which took place Monday at Airbus center in Toulouse, France.

The company, of which the Portuguese State is the main shareholder (with 50% of the capital), did not disclose the cost of this investment, but just to get a clear idea of the average price of the latest Airbus model, the A330 -900, $ 296.4 million (about 261.2 million euros).

The first Airbus A330neo trip will only take place on December 15 and will go to Brazil.
