Novo Banco will close two branches in the Viseu district. The news has been advanced by the economic digital newspaper Eco, which reveals that the agencies of S. Mateus in Viseu and S. João da Pesqueira are covered in the closure plan that the administration will put in place before the end of July
According to Eco, the decision aims to achieve the goals negotiated with the European Commission for 2021, as part of the recent sale of the institution to the US venture capital fund Lone Star. The goal was that the bank has 400 branches at the end of the deadline
The paper also notes that customers and employees have already been notified of the closures. Despite this, Eco says the bank does not consider extinguishing jobs, since workers will change their workplace, preferably at the nearest agency, or have relegation to their jobs, in now the contract terms
The new bank has completed the year 2017 with 473 agencies. In April of this year, it closed 35 branches across the country. With the closing of this month, the administration of the new bank has already promoted the closing of 71 branches in 2018, with a total of 402 branches.
Its closure in the district of Viseu comes after Caixa Geral de Depósitos recently proceeded with the closure of three branches in Viseu and Lamego, located in Rua Formosa, Abraveses and Desterro.
