The number of suspected measles cases this month in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley regions has risen to 32, confirming the disease in 22 of these cases, the Health Directorate announced today.
Among the cases confirmed by the National Institute of Health Ricardo Jorge, there are 20 adults and two children.
In the current balance sheet, there is an increase of eight registered cases compared to 23 November.
There are "two distinct outbreaks, both originating from cases of diseases imported from European countries", but two of the cases are unrelated to these outbreaks and are currently the subject of an investigation.
The symptoms of measles appear between 10 and 12 days when it is spread by contact with droplets or spreads in the air by coughing or sneezing from the infected person.
The contagion period includes the four days before and four days after the manifestation of the disease in the skin.
Fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis and runny nose are the symptoms.
The Directorate General of Health has the SNS line 24 (808 24 24 24) to clarify doubts, recommending vaccination against "one of the most contagious infectious diseases".
