O The National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced on Thursday that the the unemployment rate was 6.7% in October and confirmed in September, it stood at 6.6%, as it had already made progress in the provisional estimates published a month ago.

Yet, it should be emphasized, since 2002, there was no unemployment rate as low as in September.

In September 2018, the unemployment rate is 6.6%0.3 percentage point from the previous month, minus 0.2 percentage points from three months earlier and minus 2.0 percentage points from the same month in 2017. This represents zero revision of the provisional estimate published a month ago, "says the report of the INE.

Compared with August, the unemployed population declined by 18,000 or 5%, while the employed labor force grew by 8,800 or 0.2%.

On the other hand in October, the unemployment rate will rise to 6.7%, according to provisional data, "having increased by 0.1 pp compared to the previous month and decreased by 0.1 pp compared to July 2018 and 1.7 pp compared to October 2017", reads.

Unemployment rate among young people and adults have been estimated in 21.4% and 5.6%, respectively. "Compared to the previous month, the first rose 1.5 pp, while the last remained unchanged," concludes the INE.
